Australia has invited tenders from contractors for the upgrade of a section of the Pacific highway northbound carriageway from Herons Creek to Stills Road.

The contract involves bridgework, earthworks, drainage, pavement, utility relocations, traffic signals, property adjustments and associated works.

The A$68m ($62.9m) upgrade work will involve a new northbound carriageway replacing the current carriageway and a new interchange at Bago Road intersection.

The upgrades will enhance the safety of passengers on the dual-lane highway.

Tenders will be accepted until 20 October 2010 and the contracts will be awarded by the end of the year, according to camdencourier.com.au.

The project comes under the $3.6bn ($3.3bn) Pacific highway upgrade project, undertaken by both federal and state governments.
