The new intelligent traffic control system installed in the city of Baku in Azerbaijan will be operational by February 2011.

The $77m system is intended to ease congestion on the city’s roads to improve safety and efficiency for both pedestrians and vehicles.

As part of the project, about 639 platforms for bus stops and 140 taxicab stands will be created.

The system also includes the installation of 150 new electronic traffic lights, as well as display screens and video cameras at the new bus stops to observe traffic by satellite.

South Korea-based SK C & C Company is delivering the project, which may be expanded up to the whole Absheron Peninsula in the future, according to abc.az.
