Australia-based Redflex Traffic Systems is one of the seven companies bidding on a contract to install a traffic enforcement system in Malaysia.

The automated enforcement system (AES) features digital cameras linked to sensors on the roads, which will detect road users who violate traffic laws.

The cameras capture and transmit photographs and videos to a control centre, which will issue notices immediately.

Redflex said the system could also be programmed to detect smuggling activities and stolen vehicles through the automatic licence plate recognition.

The digital cameras would be installed at accident-prone areas, according to news.asiaone.com.

The company has already submitted proposals to the Malaysian Government on the implementation of the system, according to bernama.com.

The bidding process is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
