Qatar’s Public Works Authority Ashghal has officially opened the southern part of Doha Express Highway and Hamad Port Road completely in both directions.

The two new roads are part of other expressways that were recently opened in the region, forming a vital road network across the country.

The southern part of Doha Express Highway features a main carriageway in both directions spanning 11km.

It also includes parts of the five interchanges, such as access and exit ramps included in the project.

It is expected to relieve the pressure on Al Wakra Main Road, leading to a reduction in traffic congestion in the area by providing a highway with five lanes in each direction, connecting the south and north of the city.

All four lanes in each direction of the 14km long Hamad Port Road opened to traffic. The road connects Hamad Port with G-Ring Road.

The transport authorities are also working towards connecting this road with the northern part of Doha Express Highway.

Doha Express Highway includes five multi-level interchanges that will be completed in the next few months. The project also includes construction of a 42km of pedestrian and cycle paths.

Qatar Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said: “Opening the southern part of Doha Express Highway and Hamad Port Road is a great addition to the land transportation in Qatar, and it will contribute to enhancing traffic movement between Al Wakra and Doha, and between Mesaieed, Hamad Port and Industrial Area, and connect south of the country with the north.”

Currently, Ashghal is working on three interchanges as part of the new road works in order to provide free flowing traffic, as well as enhance the connectivity of the new expressway with local areas and surrounding expressways.
