The new All Electronic Tolling website has been activated on Massachusetts Turnpike, a 138-mile stretch of Interstate 90.

The transition from manual toll collection to electronic tolls is expected to increase safety of construction crews, law enforcement personnel, as well as lessen traffic congestion and reduce greenhouse gases.

All Electronic Tolling is designed and developed to collect information on vehicles that pass beneath the overhead tolling gantries.

The toll rate for vehicles with an active transponder will be automatically deducted from their E-ZPass account.

The vehicles without a transponder can pay the toll by automatically taking a picture of their licence plate and sending them a 'Pay By Plate' invoice in the mail.

Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has revealed that the toll plaza demolition is going as per the schedule.

The works on the I-90 include demolition of canopies, toll booths, concrete slabs of toll plazas, and the removal of utilities in underground tunnels.

"All Electronic Tolling is designed and developed to collect information on vehicles that pass beneath the overhead tolling gantries."

US Transportation Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack said: “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of drivers as we continue work in the 23 active construction zones along I-90.

“Drivers should remain aware of the fluid traffic conditions, give themselves extra time to reach their destinations, and ensure they are making the appropriate decision regarding their route and method of travel.”

Drivers have also been reminded that the posted speed limit is 15mph through each of these construction zones, even when there is no visible construction activity.
