International Road Transport Union (IRU) has formed a strategic partnership with German software developer PTV Group to develop new standards and services for route planning.

The partnership began with the launch of new services for freight operators in the Czech Republic and Romania, in cooperation with IRU member associations Cesmad Bohemia and UNTRR.

New services will be rolled out across Europe and other regions with focus on developing a consistent route planning standard, with comparable operational, cost calculation and billing elements, that can be utilised by transport operators, shippers and logistics planners.

PTV vice president of product management and software development Frank Felten said: "We gladly accepted the challenge to further roll out our existing route planning products geographically to help meet local market needs. IRU, with its network of member associations, has become a forward-looking and innovative partner with whom we can continue to grow our logistics portfolio internationally."

Based on route planning software product PTV Map&Guide, the new services offered in Czech Republic and Romania are completely customised for local conditions and challenges and will be globally promoted and developed in cooperation with IRU members in each market.

The new services also enable transport firms, irrespective of their operational size, to become efficient through better operational route planning. The services also help the firms to lower costs and reduce carbon emissions.
