The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plans to invest approximately around $4.5bn for easing traffic congestion on Interstate 35 (I-35) highway.

Currently, the TxDoT has invested about $300m in this project. Seven projects that have been taken up by TxDoT have already secured funding and two will commence work next week.

These two new projects include construction of Slaughter Creek Overpass and the bridge from Stassney Lane to William Cannon Drive, reported roadsbridges.com.

"It’s really efficient to bring people into the core of downtown on express lanes."

TxDOT also plans the installation of 92 traffic cameras and 40 digital signs, which will offer real-time information and updates to commuters travelling on the I-35 corridor, reported kvue.com.

The project will feature a tolled express lane from Round Rock to San Marcos. It will be free for Capital Metro buses, which could encourage more people to opt for bus service.

Capital Metro president and CEO Linda Watson was quoted by kvue.com as saying: "It’s really efficient to bring people into the core of downtown on express lanes, because our buses can get into downtown faster.

"We can turn around and send them out for additional trips".
